With faith in God’s promises and hearts filled with sorrow, we announce that David Yuk-Wah Wang entered the presence of the Lord and Savior on July 29, 2026, at the age of 79.

David was born on September 13, 1946 in Canton, China to Guei-Lin & Lucy Lan-Tshin Wang.  He had two siblings, older sister Esther Lao and younger sister Man-Wah Ying who preceded him in death in 2025.  David spent his early childhood in Hong Kong and Malaysia before immigrating to the United States as a teenager.  He initially lived with his uncle Duane Wang (the fifth brother of Guei-Lin) in Washington, D.C. where he met the Gattis family.  Eventually, Colonel (Ret. USMC) Austin P. Gattis and Mary Alice Gattis lovingly “adopted” David until his parents immigrated to the United States.  

While attending college, David met the love of his life, Ida.  They married in 1970 and built a life together in Maryland, where they raised their three children: Jody, Alfred and Leona.

David believed deeply in the values of hard work and carried that conviction throughout his life. In the early 70’s, as the owner of the “Golden Dragon” restaurant in Panama City, Florida, he found joy in bringing people together over delicious meals and creating a place where customers became friends and everyone felt welcome. He later devoted 45 years to a successful career in real estate where he worked tirelessly to help families, friends, and clients find a place to call home.

David also believed in treating every person with honesty, respect, compassion, and always following through on his word.  His professionalism and work ethic was not something he spoke about, it was something he demonstrated every day.  The relationships he built, the lives he touched, and the example he set through his kindness, determination, and integrity will continue to inspire those who knew him.

David will also be remembered for his extraordinary generosity, infectious sense of humor, and genuine love for people.  He delighted in traveling the world and was grateful to have fulfilled his dream of visiting many destinations.  He was happiest when sharing a meal at one of his favorite restaurants with family and friends or filling a room with one of his countless “Dad jokes”.  He had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and a part of his extended family.

An avid collector, David enjoyed antiques, stamps, and coins, appreciating not only their history but also the stories they represented.  His kindness, quick wit, and unwavering love for spending time with those he cared about created lasting memories that will forever be treasured.

David is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Ida Wang, his children, and grandchildren: daughter Commander (Ret. USN) Jody Wang, her husband Montgomery Hom, their children London & Venice; son Alfred, his wife Jennifer, their children Audrey & Brendan; daughter Leona Bedrossian, her husband Adam, their children Jacob (preceded 2018), Lucas, & Cody; eldest sister Esther Lao; half-sister Lydia Takahashi; God son Calvin Wong; and many extended family members and dear friends in the United States, Malaysia, Canada, and around the world.

David was deeply loved by all who knew him.  His legacy of faith, generosity, integrity, laughter, and love for family will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.  Though he will be greatly missed, we find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.

Alzheimer's Association - David was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2023.  Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support. 

Maryland Oncology Hematology - MOH Cares Foundation - David suffered from Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), diabetes, and eventually becoming blind in both eyes.  During the past few years, David received 31 blood transfusions and exceptional care from MOH – they support cancer patients and their caregivers by helping alleviate the non-medical challenges that come with treatment, so they can focus fully on healing and recovery. Our family is so grateful to the incredible medical staff.

Gaithersburg Chinese Alliance Church (Chinese) / Gaithersburg International Christian Fellowship (English) - David was a member of GCAC for the past 41 years. It is an evangelical Christian church in Gaithersburg, Maryland, affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. The church has served the local community since 1985 and is known for its multilingual ministry serving Chinese-speaking and English-speaking congregations.
