Charles Stamper Obituary

Charles William (Bill) Stamper, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away in Laurel, DE on May 9, 2021.  He was born in Lexington, VA in 1930, the youngest son of Harvey and Hester Stamper.  After moving to DC in the late 1930s, he attended Central High School and George Washington University before serving in the Army from 1951-53.  He married Evelyn Mason and moved to Rockville, MD, in 1956 where he raised his family.  As an officer at Riggs National Bank, he achieved Vice President status before, together with his wife, founding Christian Outreach of Montgomery County (MD) in the 1970’s.  Bill left the bank when God called him into full-time ministry in 1981 as pastor of The Church of the Vineyard, later to be renamed Olney Full Gospel Church.  After retiring at the age of 76, he lived in Israel for 2 years.  Upon his return, he continued to serve the Lord in Wilmington NC preaching part-time and holding Bible studies.  In 2017, he moved to Delaware with his daughter’s family.  His favorite scripture was Isa. 41:10 that begins, “So, do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God...”

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents and his two siblings. He leaves behind his children, Wayne (Anne), Gary, and Nancy (Mark Hewitt); his grandchildren Travis (Serena), Danny Teasley (Felicia), Talon, Jacob, Gideon Hewitt (Katie), Ian and Jessica McCarthy; and 8 great-grandchildren.
