Ceylan Conger Obituary

Ceylan Lütfiye Conger, beloved daughter, sister, friend and advocate for many left us at age 38 on Tuesday, December 17th. Born to Herb Conger and Caya Cagri and sister to Clay and Gabriel Conger, Ceylan grew up in the town of Kensington, Maryland. She attended the Academy of the Holy Cross and graduated from Fairfield University. After this, her true itinerant journey began, as she completed her Fulbright Scholarship in Istanbul and received her Master's at the London School of Economics.

Ceylan was fearless in her pursuits. Once she wanted to learn or see something, every obstacle flattened before her. She went sight-seeing through Syria with more companions than cash, practiced yoga in the caves of Mexico and hiked the rich landscapes of Costa Rica. She picked up hobbies as easily and gleefully as one grabs fresh fruit - painting, golf, Spanish guitar - and in the variety of companies at which she worked she made lasting impressions on everyone who encountered her.

It's been said that cleanliness brings purity to life, and Ceylan made her active lifestyle look almost serene. She was organized and poised, her sense of fashion a Chanel-esque display of simple elegance, and she dedicated herself to a regimen of exercise and mental wellbeing. Over the years she became a source of support for many; if you had a question, a favor or were unsure on how to take a certain path, the answer was only a phone call away. It did not matter what time zone you were in, Ceylan would gladly call or visit without needing a reason.

Everyone blessed enough to know Ceylan has stories to share and the one consistency is a sense of magic. Laughter surrounded her. The possibilities for a single day were infinite. She leapt onto every stage of her life not to cross off a to-do list but out of sheer curiosity and adventure. To her, the euphoria of finishing a marathon or finding a secret beach in Hawaii could only be improved if shared with another person. She kept nothing joyful to herself.

Ceylan was a stream of sunlight to keep us warm and an arrow of moonlight to guide us in the right direction. She was all things happy, focused, fiercely intelligent and undeterred. Her family, friends and the world at large will miss her dearly.
