Carolyn Mae Kremer (nee Hartman) of Silver Spring, MD, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 19. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Bruce Earl Kremer; her children, Dean Clayton Kremer (Lori) and Elizabeth Jane Silva; her grandchildren, Emma Jane Kremer, Claire Amanda Kremer, Ava Josephine Silva, and Catherine Rose Silva; her siblings, Howard Hartman (Vera), Kathleen Paxton (Michael), and Donald Hartman; her cousin, Donna Haas (Theodore); and numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Carolyn was born in January 1940 to George Ross and Elizabeth Jane Hartman of Williamsport, PA. When she was 9 years old, the family relocated to Wheaton, MD. Carolyn graduated from Wheaton High School in 1957 and, three years later, became a Registered Nurse as a member of the first graduating class of the Washington Hospital Center’s School of Nursing. Carolyn worked for 45 years in healthcare, forging a career built on her nursing knowledge and excellent management skills. Together with Bruce, Carolyn loved to host guests at their vacation home in Wildwood Crest, NJ. Carolyn was passionate about many things -- floral arranging, reading, gourmet cooking, and fine dining -- but her primary passion was her family and those friends she considered family. A vivacious mother figure with an unforgettable laugh, Carolyn was a woman of generosity and light.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held this summer. As Carolyn was a lifelong library volunteer, we ask that donations be made to the Montgomery County Literacy Council (link below) in lieu of flowers.
