Carol Ann Custer

Carol Ann Custer, 83, of Rockville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at her home, surrounded by the love and serenity she held dear. Born in Somerset, Pennsylvania, to Ellwood Rhoads Custer and Jennie Dolores Custer, Carol lived a life of boundless kindness, compassion, and dedication to her family and those in need, inspired by her patron saint, Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

A woman of quiet strength and unwavering integrity, Carol's greatest joy was her family. Though she never married, she embraced motherhood by adopting her beloved daughter, Marta, from El Salvador, forging a deep and enduring bond.

Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her home, touching countless lives through her generosity and advocacy. Carol sponsored children in impoverished regions, including Ukraine, Uganda, Russia, Haiti, and Slovenia, and supported widows in India, embodying her commitment to uplifting the vulnerable worldwide.

After earning her Secretarial Medical Degree, Carol moved to the Washington, D.C., area, where she began her career at Prince George's Hospital. She later devoted 30 years to State Farm Insurance, retiring in 2003 to embrace her cherished role as "Nana" to her grandsons, Cristian and Daniel, whom she adored

Carol found joy in life's simple pleasures: her beloved dogs, curling up with a good book, summers at Bethany Beach, and sharing moments with dear friends. Her warmth, generosity, and quiet grace left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Marta (son in law Cesar Sanchez) and grandsons, Cristian and Daniel.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 10 at The Shrine of St. Jude Catholic Church in Rockville, Maryland; where the Funeral Mass will begin at 11am.
