Carmen Anabel Martinez

Carmen Anabel Martínez, affectionately known to family and friends as "Anabel" or "Mama," passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, September 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 66 years old.

Carmen was born on June 17, 1958, in El Salvador. At the age of 14, she fled the country due to the escalating violence during a turbulent period in its history. She sought safety and a new beginning in the United States, arriving in Washington, D.C., with hopes of achieving the American Dream: a fulfilling career and a loving family.

By the age of 35, Carmen was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis, which ultimately prevented her from continuing her employment. Despite these challenges, Carmen remained a beacon of joy and positivity, always bringing smiles and laughter to her family and friends. She dedicated herself to ensuring that her children and grandchildren would have the opportunity to fulfill the dreams she held dear, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and hope.

Carmen is survived by her three sons, Walter, Miguel, and Sidney, as well as her two cherished grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth ("Mia"). She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and a beloved member of the community. Carmen had a passion for dancing, and her family takes comfort knowing she will be dancing and smiling in Heaven.

A Viewing will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 520 Veirs Mill Rd, Rockville, MD 20852, on SEP 28, 2024 at 10:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.

Carmen Anabel Martínez, cariñosamente conocida por su familia y amigos como "Anabel" o "Mama", falleció el domingo por la mañana, 15 de septiembre de 2024, rodeada de su amada familia. Tenía 66 años.

Carmen nació el 17 de junio de 1958 en El Salvador. A la edad de 14 años, tuvo que huir de su país debido a la creciente violencia durante un período turbulento de su historia. Buscó seguridad y un nuevo comienzo en los Estados Unidos, llegando a Washington, D.C., con la esperanza de lograr el sueño americano: una carrera satisfactoria y una familia amorosa.

A los 35 años, Carmen fue diagnosticada con artritis reumatoide y osteoporosis, lo que finalmente le impidió continuar trabajando. A pesar de estos desafíos, Carmen siempre fue una fuente de alegría y positividad, trayendo sonrisas y risas a su familia y amigos. Se dedicó a asegurar que sus hijos y nietos tuvieran la oportunidad de cumplir los sueños que ella atesoraba, dejando un legado de amor, resiliencia y esperanza.

Carmen deja atrás a sus tres hijos, Walter, Miguel y Sidney, así como a sus dos queridos nietos, Matthew y Elizabeth ("Mia"). Será recordada como una madre y abuela devota, y como una querida miembro de la comunidad. Carmen tenía una gran pasión por el baile, y su familia encuentra consuelo al saber que estará bailando y sonriendo en el cielo.

La velación se llevará a cabo en la Iglesia Católica de St. Mary, 520 Veirs Mill Rd, Rockville, MD 20852,  SEP 28,2024 a las 10:15 AM, seguida de una misa funeral a las 11:00 AM. Despues, el entierro tendra lugar en el Cementerio Gate of Heaven en Silver Spring, MD.
