Billie Womack Rice, 93, long-time resident of Brooke Grove Retirement Village in Sandy Spring, Maryland, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2020. Born in Oklahoma and raised in Texas, she was a former employee of the FBI and W. R. Grace & Co. She loved being with family, friends, neighbors and especially her beloved pets. She particularly enjoyed hearing music of the 40’s while her husband directed the Olney Big Band. Over the years she mostly loved raising her son, David, competition dancing with her husband, travelling, gardening, sewing, reading, taking care of wild birds, and observing ‘Leonard,’ the red fox who frequented her back yard.
Billie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Dr. Rip Rice, and their multi-talented son and local dentist, David. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kathy Rice of Ellendale, DE; niece Ollie Young of Ruth, MS; nephew Robert Eshleman of Metairie, LA; sister-in-law Roxanne Barr of Miami, FL, and many other devoted nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Interment will be private at Arlington National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place in late Spring at Brooke Grove Retirement Village.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (see below for details).
