On Friday, June 28, 2019, Bernadine (Bernie) Kacvinsky (nee Petsch) passed away at her daughter's home in East Petersburg, PA.

Bernie was born in Detroit, MI on September 30, 1925 to William & Helen Petsch.  She married William (Bill) Kacvinsky on January 10, 1948.  They enjoyed a long and happy marriage of 66 years, before Bill preceded her in death on March 14, 2014.  She was also preceded in death by her son, William Kacvinsky, Jr.

Bernie worked at the Hecht Company for many years.  She also worked for W. Bell & Co and retired from there in 1986.  She was active in her community and was a regular volunteer with the Mary Knights of the Fr. Rosensteel Council of the Knights of Columbus in Silver Spring, MD.

She loved to help others and was blessed with the gift of hospitality.  Bernie was very creative and had a passion for hosting gatherings big and small.  Anyone who entered her life, and in particular her home, was treated like a member of her family.

Family meant everything to Bernie.  As the matriarch of her “tribe” she is survived by her daughter, Bernadette Condo & son-in-law, David Condo of East Petersburg, PA; grandson, Anthony (TJ) Ruppert & his wife, Margot Mahannah of Apex, NC; granddaughter, Colleen Alexander & her husband, Ben Alexander of Lancaster, PA; grandson, Joseph Kacvinsky of Arlington, VA; grandson, Derek Condo of Portland, OR and granddaughter, Samantha McDowell & her husband, Steven McDowell of Lancaster, PA. In addition, she was blessed to have nine beautiful great-grandchildren, who called her “Bup”, they are Sean McDowell, Elliana Alexander, Jackson McDowell, Orion Ruppert, Amelia Alexander, Mia McDowell, Mikayla Alexander, Phoenix Ruppert & Jeremiah Alexander.  Also surviving are close family friends, John & Betty Neesen & their daughter, Kara Neesen.

Graveside services will be Thursday, July 11, 2019, at 1:00 pm at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17604 or your local hospice organization.
