Barbara Sposato Obituary

Barbara Sposato passed away on November 4, 2024.  Barbara was born on March 21, 1934 in New York to the late George F. Winkler and Madeline C. Winkler.  She grew up on Long Island and, after earning her bachelor’s degree at Rosemont College, married Robert (Bob) P. Sposato on June 30, 1956.

Barbara and Bob had a great love affair with each other and a great love of family and friends.  Barbara showed that love in many ways including reaching out in service individually with help for a task, a meal that was needed or resources that were required, and as part of a community through organizations such as the Catholic Daughters of America and the Sodality of Our Lady of Grace parish.

Barbara loved cooking, gardening, and creating a home for her dear ones.  She was an avid reader and liked to learn, pursuing hobbies such as crafting, knitting, needlepoint, German language, and watercolor.  Barbara also enjoyed talking with people and bringing people together. She cherished correspondence, conversations, and reminiscing and was always ready to share your joy or your sorrow.  Barbara often offered a listening ear along with a slice of her homemade soda bread or a couple of warm cookies at the ready when a little quiet comfort was called for.

Barbara leaves behind her children, their spouses, and grandchildren including Robert P. Sposato, Jr.; Christopher Sposato and Catalina Sposato and their children Christopher and Catalina; Bonnie Sposato; Timothy Sposato and Lisa Sposato and their children Timothy and Molly; Michael Sposato and Grace Sposato and their children, Madeline, Joseph and Paul; and Eileen (Sposato) DeMarco and Paul DeMarco and their children Andrew, Elisabeth, and Michael.  Barbara also leaves behind her sisters Joan Benatti, Patricia Browne, and Mickie Crimone, as well as her sister-in-law Maura Winkler, and many beloved nieces and nephews.   In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, George Winkler; and her brothers-in-law Samuel Crimone, Richard Benatti, and Richard Browne.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Divine Mercy Chapel, Marian Assisted Living, 19109 Georgia Avenue, Brookeville, Maryland 20833 on November 23 at 11:00 a.m.  The family will gather at the chapel at 10:30 a.m. to receive visitors.
