Barbara Lynette Dennin (nee Yates)
May 21, 1937-August 17, 2022
On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, Barbara passed away after suffering a long battle with dementia. She was born on May 21, 1937 in Washington, DC. She graduated from McKinley Tech High School in 1955. Barbara and former husband John raised their children in Lanham, MD. They attended St. Matthias Catholic Church and were active in the Lanham Boys Club for many years. For the last 20 years before retirement, Barbara worked as a purchasing agent at Stone Industrial in College Park. Barbara retired in 2002 to her home in Bowie where she enjoyed reading, playing Bingo, spending time and going on trips with her sisters and father, and enjoying her children and grandchildren. Family was EVERYTHING to Barbara. She moved to Grace House in Silver Spring in 2009 and lived there for 5 years until her needs increased, when in 2014 she moved into Caring Companions in Silver Spring.
Barbara is survived by her children Sheryl (Bill) Walsh, John (Susan) Dennin, and Craig (Ann) Dennin; her sister Janet Yates; her grandchildren Billy, Katie, Kerry, Foster, Shane, Adam and Ethan; and her great-grandchildren Ryan, Owen and Mia. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents James Foster Yates and Winifred Virginia Yates (nee Stansbury) and by her sister Patricia Ann Wightman. We would like to thank the compassionate caregivers at Caring Companions who took such care of our Mom right up until the end, especially Penny and Sunita.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew Apostle Church on Kemp Mill Road in Silver Spring, MD at 11am on Friday, August 26th with visitation from 10-11am in the church.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to World Villages for Children (www.worldvillages.org/donate) in Barbara’s name.
