Audrey Cooper was born August 26, 1931 in New York City, where she attended Catholic school until graduation from Cathedral High School in 1949. She then went on to work for the airline industry. In 1956 she married the love of her life, James K. Cooper. Together they raised two children Kathleen Cannon and Eileen Spaeder, who survive them. Audrey is also survived by three grandchildren, Brendan, Liam and Gwendolyn Cannon. They were cherished by both Audrey and Jim. She has many surviving in laws, nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
A lifelong Catholic, she loved God above all else. She displayed her faith by being selfless and was a good friend to many. She volunteered throughout her life as a Eucharistic minister, most recently at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Silver Spring MD. Audrey enjoyed ceramics, crocheting and travel. She had a great eye for interior design. Her family enjoyed her cooking and her love of her Irish culture, which culminated annually with a memorable St. Patrick’s Day Party.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, James K. Cooper, and by her three elder siblings, Sr. Dolores Eileen Thordike OFS, John Thorndike, and Patricia Demelio, and by her brother/sister in law, Byron Cooper and Maureen Terilli.
Audrey and her family would like to thank her physician, Dr. Kevin Gil and the staff at Bedford Court Assisted Living in Silver Spring MD for providing kind, patient and compassionate care.
We have heartfelt gratitude for Mrs. Barbara Connors. She is a longtime friend who has selflessly watched over Audrey until the end. She is a friend who has become family.
Visitation will begin at 10:30am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Silver Spring, Maryland; where the Funeral Mass will begin at 11am. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland. After the Interment, all are invited back to Our Lady of Grace for a reception.
