Anna Marie Hamill (maiden name) was born on August 14, 1928, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Hallahan Girls High School in 1947. After graduation she met Joseph T. Brennan who had recently been honorably discharged from his post with the Naval Pacific fleet after WWII. The couple married on October 28, 1950 and while the couple were on their honeymoon Joe was called to reenlist in the Navy and served in the Korean War. After the war, Joe’s work took the family to England (1954-1955), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (1957-1959) and finally to New Carrollton, Maryland where they settled in 1959.

In New Carrollton, Anna Marie was a homemaker while raising their 4 young girls, all the while involved in many community activities, including the 4-H club, New Carrollton Homemakers Club, and serving as a first grade Religion teacher each Saturday at St. Mary’s Church. Anna Marie and husband Joe also loved square dancing and belonged to many square dancing organizations over the years.

Anna Marie returned to school part time at Prince Georges Community College in 1968. She transferred to the University of Maryland in 1971 and continued her studies until her graduation in May 1981 when she graduated Magna Cum Laude.  Anna Marie worked for the University of Maryland Computer Science Department until1992.  She moved to Leisure World in the late 1990’s and was active in the Catholic Church Our Lady of Grace, the library, the Phoenix Society and the Mutual 13 Homeowners Association.  She was also active in NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees) where she served as the organization's Secretary for many years.  She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family that has grown exponentially over the years to include 4 daughters, 14 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren (so far).

Anna Marie lived proudly independent in Leisure World through her 93thd birthday, and moved to Kensington Park Senior Living shortly before her passing. She enjoyed a variety of activities and the company of the wonderful staff members there, including her granddaughter Jamie, Director of Nursing.  The staff and residents at Kensington Park came to know Anna Marie fondly as “Grammy.”
