Alice Meros Obituary

Alice Lucile Niedzwiecki Meros, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, at the age of 89.

Alice was born in Frackville Pennsylvania, to Joseph and Josephine Rafalowski Niedzwiecki, the youngest of 10 siblings and was preceded in death by sisters, Jean Powanda and Elsie McHale; and seven brothers, Alfonse, Albert, Aloysius, Chester, Joseph, Leonard, and Thaddeus Niedzwiecki.

She married Edward Meros in 1962, and they spent over 62 years together. They built a life full of love and family in their home in Potomac, Maryland, where they lived for more than fifty years. Their life was marked by kindness, curiosity, and a steady support of family.

Alice lived simply, worked hard and cared deeply for the people around her, following with integrity her Catholic faith that was so important to her.

From a young age, Alice was involved in her church singing in the choir and decorating the altar and church at St Anne's in Frackville, and later supporting her church as a long time member of the Ladies Guild, teaching CCD and faithfully attending Mass at St Elizabeth Catholic Church in Rockville, Maryland for over 50 years.

Alice worked at Bell Telephone in Frackville and transferred to the Washington, D.C. Office of Bell Telephone following her husband to the metro area in 1962.  Upon the birth of her children, she moved on to caring for a family full time and teaching by example her Catholic faith to her children.  When her children required less attention, she found nearby work at MCI Tysons, Community Radiology Associates Bethesda, and Montgomery County Government (MCG) Department of Community Revitalization in Rockville, MD.

Alice enjoyed traveling, gardening with her husband and family, and playing bridge with a group of neighbors who became close friends.  Following retirement from MCG she continued gardening, caring for her husband, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.   Her kindness and warmth made her a good friend to many.

She was thoughtful, understanding, and genuinely caring. Her love was steady and true, and she touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

Alice is survived by her children, Edward J. Meros, M.D., and Alicia M. Carney, Esq., and her grandchildren, Sophia, Greyson, and Leila Carney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and her son, Joseph A. Meros.
