William Richard Gigax, also known as Dick, spent most of his career as a librarian at the Library of Congress Congressional Research Service. He rose to Assistant Chief of his division and then to Acting Chief for 3 years before retiring in 1993. He held subsequent positions at Arlington County Public Library and George Mason University Library. Earlier he was an economist with naval logistics and with the Dept. of Justice Antitrust Division.
Richard (parentage Hausman-Dawson and Heer-Gigax) passed away at age 79. He was raised near Toledo, OH. Richard attended Ohio Wesleyan University, class of 1961, graduating with honors PBK. He earned an MS at Purdue University 1964 and an MSLS at the University of Maryland 1972. With his wife, the late Alice Clancy Staples Gigax, 2018 (parentage Young-Clancy, Kingman-Staples), he lived in DC for many years. They were members of the Church of the Pilgrims. Alice and Richard moved to Rockville on retirement in 2007. They are survived by their children, Richard, CA Bay Area; William and Marian, Montgomery County MD; and by 5 grandchildren. Services will be at Rockville Presbyterian Church, on Saturday, February 2nd, 2019 at 11:00am, with burial at a later date at Ryder Cemetery, McElroy plot, Lebanon, KY.
