Thomas Joseph Camarda on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Haberlein Camarda; father of the late John Camarda; grandfather of Timothy Camarda (Lea Mae), Katie Camarda and Libby Camarda; great grandfather "Grampy" of Dorothy Jane Camarda; father in law of Sarah Jane Camarda. Also survived by his fiancé and companion of 21 years Joan Gagliardi and her children Jenn Knack, Joel, Jeff & Jeremy Gagliardi. He was “Papa Tom” to Vince & Sarah Knack, Dominic, Annie & Jack Gagliardi. Predeceased by his parents Rose & Gaetano Camarda and brothers Vincent & Lawrence Camarda & Harry Daher.

Tom served in the Navy during WWII from 1942 to 1945 in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres. After the war he settled in Washington DC and interned at the Washington Times Herald covering sports. He managed the RKO Keith’s Theater in downtown DC. Tom retired from the Washington Post as Manager of Amusement/Entertainment Advertising Department after 27 years and created the first Guide to the Lively Arts section which is still used today.

After retirement he served as a Loaned Executive to the United Way Campaign for many years, was a volunteer docent at the Navy Memorial, ushered at his church and volunteered at schools in D.C. and Maryland.

Visitation at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 6900 River Road, Bethesda, MD on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 9:30 until 11:00 am with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
