Stephen Sepp, 51, passed on June 15, 2018, surrounded by the love of his family, friends and colleagues.
A native Texan, Sepp began his career in Washington, DC, in the offices of two Republican Texas senators, Phil Gramm and John Cornyn. He then came to work for the House of Representatives, for then-Republican Study Committee Chair Jeb Hensarling. Sepp quickly became an expert in budgetary matters and moved to the House Budget Committee, where he worked for then-Chairman Paul Ryan, helping to craft the “Roadmap for America’s Future.” In 2010, he was recruited by Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Jerry Lewis (R-CA) to the House Appropriations Committee, where he continued to serve as senior adviser and all-around expert in federal budgetary process in the committee front office for two successive Chairmen, Hal Rogers (R-KY) and Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ). His wry sense of humor, brilliant ability to work the most arcane budget process details, and never-wavering sense of integrity made him a joy and honor to work alongside.
Sepp graduated from the University of North Texas, where he met his beloved wife and partner of 22 years, Diem. He was completely devoted to his wife and his two children, Ashley and Matthew. His happiest moments were spent with them soaking in every second of magic at the Disney theme parks.
Sepp embodied strength, facing both professional and personal challenges equally with indefatigable grace and fortitude. In short, he made a difference in the lives of all he touched, as well as the lives of all Americans through his work.
He is survived by his wife Diem, children Ashley and Matthew, as well as his family in Texas – his father George, stepmother Gloria, and sister Cindy. He was preceded in death by his mother Shirley.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, June 27 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church 2900 Olney-Sandy Spring Road, Olney, Maryland 20832. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that any contributions be directed to the Sepp Education Fund (https://www.gofundme.com/sepp-education-fund) which will benefit his children’s education.
