Ronald Matthew Moretti on Friday, March 10, 2017.

From raising a house full of sons, to writing jingles for the Tony Kornheiser Show, to working at Camden Yards for Cal Ripken Jr.’s record-setting 2,131 consecutive game, or simply enjoying a fine cigar Ronald Matthew Moretti, 79, was a man who followed his passions. 

Mr. Moretti was born February 23, 1938, in Dansville, New York and was the oldest of six children to Matteo (Matthew) and Doris Helen Gross Moretti.  Ron and his siblings, grew up in Niagara Falls, New York.

Mr. Moretti graduated from Monroe Community College with an associates degree in Optical Engineering.  Career opportunities took him and his growing family from Rochester, New York to Boston before settling into the Washington, DC area suburb of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Over the years, Ron's expertise and passion drove his success as a sales and service representative of microscopes and other optical equipment to the medical and research facilities in the DC area. A tireless worker, Ron took on other extra jobs to help provide for his family.  Whether managing a bowling alley, supervising sports leagues, serving as a game-day operations staffer with the Baltimore Orioles or launching his own company, Romor Associates, Ron never shied away from a challenge.

Ron regularly mentored young co-workers and befriended other colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Ron was approachable, non-judgemental and a friend to all.  His sharp sense of humor endeared him to many. Ron also answered the call to give to others, from coaching his son’s sports teams, to assisting in the scouting organizations and serving on the Parish Council of St. Martin’s Catholic Church. Ron even once tried his lot in local politics running for the City Council of Gaithersburg.

Ron's passions and interests inspired his creativity.  He loved music, especially attending concerts, and took great pride in having his jingles played on the radio.  An earlier pastime included photography, in which he often focused on the beauty of nature.  He loved his sports and was a Washington Redskins season ticket holder for more than 30 years. Later in life, Ron became an accomplished poker player.  He truly enjoyed the fellowship, conversation and a good cigar at the shop or the club, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Ron battled lymphoma for more than 10 years and was determined to enjoy all he could from life. His was successful in that pursuit and enjoyed a high quality of life until the end. 

Beloved father of Mark Moretti (Julia Moretti), David Moretti (Jake Carson), Michael Moretti (Tracy Moretti), Paul Moretti (Ashley Shelton) and Stephen Moretti (Carey Moretti); brother of Marie, David, Robert and Louis Moretti and Deborah Hunt; husband of Joann Moretti; Grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 2; also survived by his closest and dearest friend Dianna Burge.

Visitation will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 4101 Norbeck Road, Rockville, MD on Thursday, March 16 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm where Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, March 17 at 11:00 am. Interment private.
