Ronald was born on December 6, 1944 in Washington DC, the 4th child of the late George W. Gould, Sr. and Margaret A. Gould. He is preceded in death by his sister Carol F. Welch, his brother Michael A. Gould and his niece, Theresa M. Gould. He is survived by his beloved partner of 22 years, Nellie Maravilas, his sister, Margaret Mary Frillman, and brother, George W. Gould, Jr., and 17 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his many friends, including Bobby Havener, Bob Margolies, Chandler Cavin, the Johnson brothers, Mark Ramsey, Mike Weber, "Ross", Phil Termini, and Leon Crowell, among others.
Ronald grew up in the Michigan Park and Brookland neighborhoods of DC and Damascus, MD. He attended DC schools and the Corcoran School of the Arts. He was an artist since his teen years – loving to paint religious art, landscapes and paintings of homes. He worked as a furniture refinisher and was most proud of restoring furnishings and woodworks in the U.S. Capitol building. He also worked on restoration of the site of George Washington’s boyhood home in Fredericksburg, VA.
In addition to his love of art and refinishing, Ron's other great interests were in friendship and conversation. He made many friends, kept them for many years, and conversed on many levels. His knowledge of many subjects made him a good conversationalist. Ron and Nellie attended our Lady of Lourdes church in Bethesda for over a decade, and more recently, during his illness, he was sustained by his friends in worship at the Derwood Bible Church.
Ronald fought cancer and other ailments over the past few years, always with hope and fortitude. He died at Holy Cross Hospital on November 18, 2017 after a month long battle. Because of his love of religious art, dedication to church and Our Lord, please make donations, in lieu of flowers, to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and/or Derwood Bible Church.
