Patricia O'Brien Wetzel of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away at home on Monday, October 22, 2018 surrounded by her family. Patti is survived by her husband of 52 years Ronald Wetzel; her children Jim Wetzel, Carrie Meyer (Andrew), Julie Kopp (Jonathan), and Annemarie Wetzel; her beloved grandchildren Julian Martin, Keegan, Carleigh and Coby Meyer, Jackson and Justin Kopp. She leaves behind many treasured friends.
Patti was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She grew up in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. She excelled at diving, dancing, and contract bridge. Patti attended Barry College (now Barry University). She continued her education at Rollins College as well as the University of Florida.
Patti was a successful real estate agent in the Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. areas for over 30 years. She loved her work and thrived in helping her clients find a place to call home. One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother. She devoted herself to her grandchildren and took immense pride in all their interests and accomplishments.
Patti was a devout Catholic and loved her community at St. Andrew Apostle. She devoted many hours and her talents to the parish and the school during her 40 years as a parishioner. She was gifted at connecting with people. She always had a welcoming and warm smile. Patti touched and impacted so many of her children’s friends, her friends, and community. She loved being with her friends whether it was her Red Hats, Bridge Clubs, Book Clubs, or church community. Patti was incredibly creative and crafty. A lifelong learner she was always trying to learn something new. She will be fondly and lovingly remembered and mourned by her family and friends.
Visitation will be at St. Andrew Apostle Church, 11600 Kemp Mill Road, Silver Spring, MD 20902 on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 10:00 until 10:30 am with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Interment private.
