Norma Beatriz Hughes of Rockville, Maryland went to be with our Lord on Thursday, January 4, 2018.

She was born October 22, 1949 in Mar del Plata, Argentina.  In December of 1960 she and her family moved to the United States.  She spent most of her childhood in the Wheaton/Kensington area where she attended Wheaton High School, in the class of 1969.  

She was a devoted member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church and a member of the Sodality for over 40 years. She offered many hours of her time as an aide for CCD classes at the church, Christmas Bazaars and to the Sodality whenever she was able.She volunteered at the Salvation Army for many years. She volunteered countless hours at Garrett Park Elementary in Kensington, Maryland where her grandchildren attended. She would go on field trips, work the book fairs, assist in the office and help with recess when her health allowed.  

Those who knew her know she always greeted you with a smile, she was a proud mother, an amazing grandmother; she had a huge heart and would help anyone she could. Norma was a devout Catholic and very committed to her faith.  She loved to read and was an amazing cook. She will always be fondly remembered for her fabulous chicken and rice with homemade salsa, her amazing milanesas, and her wonderful decorative cakes.

Norma is survived by her children, Michael E. Hughes(Antoinette), Richard L. Hughes (Marissa) and Rebecca A. Calderon (Namron);  mother, Emilia Usenica, grandchildren,Tristan, Melissa, Kayla, Brianna, Lexi, Joshua, Jasmine, Logan and Jaylan; sister Lidia Jaime-Rizzo and brother Luis Usenica; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephewsresiding here, Argentina and Canada. She is preceded in death by her father Luis Usenica and her nephews Eric and Alex Valainis.

Mass of Christian Burial at the Shrine of St. Jude Catholic Church, 12701 Veirs Mill Rd, Rockville, MD 20853 on Saturday, January 20, 12:00 noon.
