Lawrence Louis Casertano

Lawrence Louis Casertano (known to everyone as Larry) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, 24 May 2017. 
    He was born on 14 April, 1921, to Andrew and Agnes (Nee Florio) Casertano on the Lower East Side of New York City. They were recent immigrants to America from the Campnia region (near Napoli) in southern Italy. 
    He was inducted into the US Army on 05 November 1942, as a Pole Linemen, (MOS 643) where he learned about electronics, radio, and communications. He served in the US Army Signal Corps under General "Vinegar Joe" Stilwell, in the India – Burma – China of the Pacific theater during World War II, receiving the Bronze Star, the China War Memorial badge, the WWII Victory and Asiatic Pacific theater ribbons. He was honorably discharged on 25 Feb 1946, after suffering from a disease contracted in theater.
    He met his future wife of sixty-eight years, Louise Catherine Silbermann, while studying at a Vocational Trade School and working for the Veterans Administration. They were married on 10 March 1949. Besides his wife, He is survived by three sons, Lawrence L, Jr., James, and Andrew, eight grand-children, and four (soon-to-be five) great-grand-children...
    He retired from the U.S. Information Agency, a division of the U.S. State Department, which serviced the Voice of America, the official external broadcasting Radio and Television multimedia news source of the US government, broadcasting in English and some foreign languages, among other entities.
    As he had perfect rhythm, he enjoyed all types of dancing, including modern square dancing with his wife, and with amateur theatrical productions. He also enjoyed wood carving.
    Funeral Services will commence on Tuesday, 30 May 2017, at 10:30 am, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 16551 Norbeck Blvd, Silver Spring, MD(just past the intersection of Georgia Ave and MD Route 28). The viewing with family will last from 10:30- 11:00 am, when the Funeral Mass will start. Immediately after, he will transported to his final rest at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD (near the corner of Georgia and Connecticut Ave).
