Ella Catherine Hogan Marstaller 83, of Sandy Spring, Maryland, passed away peacefully on December 6th, 2018. Ella was the daughter of the late Dorothy Knowlton and Joseph Francis Hogan of Hyattsville, Maryland. She is survived by three daughters - Hope Lynch of Ashton, MD, Theresa Chalkley of Williamsburg, VA and Deborah Hayes of Plantation, FL; two sons - Eugene Marstaller of Mechanicsville, MD and Michael Marstaller of Rockville, MD; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 sisters and 4 brothers along with a host of extended family members and loving friends.
Ella graduated with honors with a Mental Health Associates Degree from Montgomery College, Takoma Park, MD in 1979; completed Family Therapy Training at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD in 1983; and was a Clinically Certified Alcoholism and Addictions Counselor awarded by the Washington Metropolitan Area Addictions Counselor Credentialing Board from 1984-1992.
For 16 years, Ella held various positions as an Alcoholism Counselor for The Washington Adventist Hospital System as Director of Aftercare Kolmac Clinic in Silver Spring, MD and as an Assistant Office Manager for the Washington Area Intergroup Association. After retiring, she was employed by Colonial Williamsburg for several years.
Ella was a member of the Catholic Church and was active in many ways, including the Sodality of St. Mary’s Church in Rockville, MD. Ella had many hobbies and in her later years enjoyed genealogy and quilting. She loved to make Red, White and Blue lap quilts for Veterans.
Visitation will begin at 10am on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15663 Norbeck Blvd, Silver Spring, MD 20906, where the Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD.
