Andrew Kane Obituary

Andrew “Andy” Kane, 62, husband, father, pilot, RC enthusiast, entrepreneur, and life-long Silver Spring resident, died suddenly on December 30, 2019, after suffering a heart attack. Andy was THE family man, our rock, our caretaker, and the glue that held together many family gatherings and holidays. He loved nothing more than helping his family have fun, putting a smile on everyone’s face, and always cracking a joke or solving a problem. He was always available to lend a helping hand and was a devoted husband and father, providing endless love and support.

Andy is survived by his wife, Antonia (“Toni”) Kane; daughter, Christina Kane (Basel Hani); sister, Jackie Kane Amar; brother-in-law, Louis Chipouras; sister-in-law, Joy Weaver (Bland); nephews, Eli and Zachary Webb; the Koroulakis family; and many other cousins, close friends and family members. He is predeceased by his son, Jason Kane; his parents, Samuel and Bernice Kane and George and Penny Chipouras; and many other family members and friends.

Andy was also an internationally-known, respected, and beloved leader in the Radio Control Model Aircraft Hobby. He volunteered his time and knowledge since childhood to furthering the hobby. Andy’s mission in life was to better the sport of model aviation. For nearly 40 years, he was a pivotal member of the District of Columbia Radio Control Club (DCRC), serving as a guiding officer for over twenty years, including several terms as President. Andy also served the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) as RC Contest Coordinator, Turbine CD and Experimental Aircraft Inspector and for the International Miniature Aerobatic Club (IMAC), and he was on the sequence committee and served as the Unknown Sequence librarian. He was District VP for Jet Pilots Organization (JPO) and the International Miniature Aircraft Association (IMAA). He was lovingly designated as the President of Team Food by his fellow DCRC Members. He devoted his life to the hobby, loved every minute of it, and loved his many flying “buddies” all over the world that he met through the years.

Andy’s passing will leave a huge void in many lives. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him. Fly high, blue skies.
