Ann L. Brown Obituary
Ann L. Brown of Silver Spring, MD, passed to eternal rest on July 6, 2026, at Suburban Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Brown, sons Robert and Patrick, daughter Susan (Perry) Wagner, daughter-in-law Elizabeth, seven grandchildren, Kelly (Isaac Salazar), Christopher (Katelyn), and Catie Brown; Charles, Sophia, Andrew (Sophie) and Grace Wagner, and great-grandchildren Ensley and Callen Brown. She was pre-deceased by her son Thomas (Elizabeth), her parents Roy P. and Mary A. Murphy Loftus, three sisters and one brother.
Born and raised in Scranton, PA, Ann and Bob met at a wedding in 1957 when he was best man for his friend who married Ann’s cousin. Bob and Ann were married in August, 1958, and lived in Scranton where sons Robert and Thomas were born. In 1962 they moved to Silver Spring where Susan and Patrick were born. After her children were raised to school age, Ann enrolled at Montgomery College and in 1981 was awarded the degree of Associate in Arts with a specialization in Radiologic Technology. Following an internship at Suburban Hospital, she joined the staff, specializing in mammography. She supervised the Mary Esther Womens’ Center at Suburban from its inception until her retirement in 1994.
In retirement, she enjoyed playing golf with her former co-workers. Also she and husband Bob enjoyed traveling, with five trips to Ireland, two river cruises in France on the Seine and Rhone which included stays in Paris, trips through the wine country of Provence and a visit to the Normandy invasion beaches and the cemetery where many of the D-day casualties are buried. They also traveled to Luxembourg to visit their granddaughter, Kelly, when she was assigned to the Embassy there. There were many trips around the US with the Retired Men’s Club of Rosensteel Council, K of C and to family reunions weddings and other special events. Ann was active in the Maryknights, Rosensteel’s Ladies Auxiliary. A move to Leisure World took place in 2005.
Ann always enjoyed family gatherings, with Lobster Night, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve being particularly joyous. Her Kindle was one of her favorite companions as she always loved a good book. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and for being quiet and determined, with a big heart and open arms for all comers, and for her, “What can I get you to eat and drink?”
