Welcome to the memorial page for

Richard Allen Myers

July 14, 1953 ~ November 24, 2017 (age 64) 64 Years Old

Rick was born July 14, 1953, in Martinsburg, WV, to Donald Myers and Wilda Jean Aldrich. He graduated from Governor Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, MD, and received his Associate's Degree in Business Management from Montgomery College. He began his career as a Barber at Suburban Hair Design in Montgomery Village, MD; and continued cutting hair for 43 years, most recently at Whispers Hair Salon in Gaithersburg, MD. He also worked as a Leader at Weight Watchers for over a decade.

Rick met the love of his life, Ruth Anne Schmitz at 18 years old and they were married just 3 months later.  They said it wouldn’t last, but July 10, 1972 saw the beginning of an enviable romance and partnership that lasted until death parted them. Rick was a doting husband.  He made Ruth Anne breakfast and lunch everyday, wrote love notes, and never failed to tell her she was beautiful or profess his love. They were #teamSundayDinner and very much enjoyed the morning view from their adored condo they purchased together 4 years ago.

Rick was an avid runner- running every single day, no matter what,  for over 23 years.  He loved to give out post run “sweat-hugs” and kisses.  He was an accomplished baker; known for his “Never Gonna Give ‘Em Up Rick’s Rolls” and his famous chocolate chip cookies.  He loved coffee- especially Starbucks (never cold and old); music, soap operas, and the playing the lottery.  He was a claw machine master and always gifted his ‘winnings’ to his grandchildren.

You could often find Rick in the kitchen singing and dancing.  He faithfully made wonderful dinners for his family every Sunday.  On birthdays we were treated to his famous homemade pizza.  Each grandchild would get to choose a treat from PawPaw’s fridge basket every Sunday, and take home a new car, toy, or treat.  His family and their life together was the envy of many, often billed as the most close-knit, connected, and loving family [they] know.  He called daily, to check on his children and grandchildren,  landscaped and maintained his children’s yards, cut everyone in his family's hair, and made everyone he knew smile and feel special.

He is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Ruth Anne (Schmitz) Myers; his brother Danny Myers (Debbie) and his sister Bonnie Pinon (Guillermo); his children, Robert and Katie Myers, Ryan and Kamesha Myers, Regan and Melisa Myers, and Rachel and Jason White. His Grandchildren- Nicolas, Olivia, Parker, Reid, Camryn, Mackenzie, and Rowan, were his absolute pride and joy. Ask any of them, “who is the world's greatest pawpaw?”  and they would smile and point his way (he trained them early and often).  He was always ready with a “hand monster”, snuggles, sugar filled treats, or a song. They were not spoiled rotten, they were “spoiled just right”.

His will be missed by many family members including his aunts Lois Haines, Mildred Puffinburger, and Sandy Anderson, siblings-in law Patricia Clarke (Robert), Marti Dillon (Bruce), and David Schmitz (Rocio); his nieces and nephews, Michael Myers, Scott Zimmerman (Nancy),  Jeff Zimmerman (Tara), Catherine Meadors (Aaron), Carrie Frazier (Richard), Timothy Myers (Rhianna), Jennifer McCoy (Chris), Gene Dillon, Bainie Mama, Maggie Bourne (William), Danny and Anamaria Schmitz, Kira and Hazel Pierce, Kevin, Leah, and Brody McCoy, and many more.

Rick was “Dad” to many more than his own children, especially Damion Morris, Angela Abrishami, and Jody Burghardt. We know all of his “bonus” children and a myriad of “honorary Myers” join us in mourning.

He will be missed by scores of friends, especially his work families from Suburban Hair Design, Weight Watchers, and Whispers. His “boss lady” Valerie Becton, and his fellow 4 Stars Rudi Redding, Carolyn Creasman, and Nanti.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother Jimmy Myers, his sister Donna Jean Myers, his niece Missy Myers-Story, and his dear friends Thomas Palsha (Bernice), and William Wilder (Nina).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rick’s name to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.  If you have a special message, memory, or thought you would like to share, please e-mail ramyers@gmail.com.
